“Bravery, after all, isn’t the absence of fear. Bravery is the acknowledgment and the conquering of fear.” – Echo-Gordon; Skulduggery Pleasant: Playing With Fire
Please join The Faces of Cincinnati as we honor and show appreciation for our graduating class of 2020. Today we point the spotlight to high school graduating senior, Lou Walro! Lou gave us his favorite quote, above and we asked for some fun facts as follows.
Q: What would you say you are most proud of about yourself?
A: I am most proud of my strong work ethic. As a lifeguard, I always took the early morning shifts, which meant that I was responsible to be the first one there to open the pool for the early swimmers. I am also working at Kroger as a click list filler.
Q: Please tell us about your current plans after high school. What inspired you to choose this path?
A: I am going into the nursing program at the University of Cincinnati. My experience as a lifeguard, being an Eagle Scout, my numerous science classes, and a marine biology trip to the Florida Keys sparked my interest in becoming a nurse.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
A: I live with both my parents, my younger brother, and our dog.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you have met in our community. Why?
A: I’ve met a lot of really fun and interesting people while working at the YMCA. Marylin Horning is another early shift lifeguard, a gymnastics coach, outdoor adventurer, and animal lover.
Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?
A: Criminal minds
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world (no restrictions) right now, where would it be and why?
A: Scuba diving in the Bahamas. I love swimming around in the water and seeing all the unique species in the sea.
Q: If you could go back, what advice would you give to yourself as a freshman?
A: Get out there and be yourself.
Q: What is the best advice you received from a teacher?
A: I had a teacher who gave advice on how to study to help me memorize important facts by categorizing them and assigning them different “rooms” in my visual house. I can walk into different rooms and visualize different items that remind me of certain facts
Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
A: It depends on how I am feeling. I prefer to listen to classic rock.
Q: If you could choose anyone alive today or passed, with whom would you like to have lunch? What would you want to know?
A: I would like to have lunch with comedian Brian Regan, because we could connect on observational humor and being sarcastic.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
A: How involved everyone is and how well the community is growing together.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
A: Grad student with a degree in nursing with a well-paying job.
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: Although I am super adventurous, I am one of the most relaxed people if you get to know me.
Q: What is your favorite month, holiday or season of the year? And do you have a favorite single day on the calendar?
A: Although I prefer the summer months to go outside and enjoy the weather, my favorite day is December 31st because it is my birthdate and everyone in the world gets to celebrate it with me.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
A: My friends, teachers, and family.
Q: What is the first thing you want to do when this quarantine is completely over?
A: Go on a senior trip with my friends
Q: Who or what do you miss the most right now?
