Leslie Rich

Meet Leslie Rich . . . many westsiders consider Leslie a local treasure. She’s been an active community leader for many years and fortunately for Westwood, has recently been named Executive Director of Westwood Works. In her role, Leslie works tirelessly to encourage awareness, growth, social & racial justice, and a better living experience for everyone in the community.

Size Brings Opportunity

With over 30,000 residents, Westwood is the largest neighborhood in Cincinnati, by far.  Leslie considers that a good thing and is committed to being inclusive to all who are willing to contribute. In her words, “poverty of finances does not mean poverty of character” and she embraces Westwood’s complex culture with optimism, positivity and perhaps most importantly, a plan for strengthening and improving this great neighborhood.

It Takes a Village

Leslie makes it clear that she does not do it alone. Her core team at Westwood Works began in 2009 with Leslie and seven friends committed to bring an ArtWorks mural to the neighborhood. The team has not stopped working together to improve the Westwood community. Additionally, she has been influenced by many outstanding individuals and mentors whom have helped give encouragement and guidance.

Sharing Her Gift

Leslie has an impressive gift for being able to identify unique strengths of individuals in the community and help enable them to be part of the spirit of change. It is no surprise that she is the latest recipient of the Westwood Hero Award presented by the Westwood Civic Association Outreach Committee.

Westwood certainly has a formidable ally in Leslie Rich, and she is determined stay open minded and optimistic about the future of her neighborhood.

“When we swing our attention to look through the lens of love then we unlock the possibilities of the community and the people in that community.” Leslie Rich

Just for Fun:

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be, and why?
A: Morocco – I spent time researching this part of the world in college and I am still fascinated by the life, culture and food and there. I would love to experience it in person.

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
A: Definitely the opportunity for people in our community to apply for mini-grants to help strengthen and enhance our neighborhoods.

Q: Name 3 bands, dead or alive, you would like to see?
A: Beastie Boys; Thin Lizzy; Talking Heads (answered with no hesitation!)

Q: What is your Favorite Movie?
A: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Q: If you could meet one famous person, past or present, who would it be?
A: James Arthur Baldwin (deceased, 1987) – even now his take on race, sexuality bias and class inequality is so prescient. I would love to hear his voice to bring light to that!

Q: What do you do for fun?
A: I hike, I read, I spend time with my family.

Leslie and her husband Bill will be opening the Wondercade Cincy arcade in Westwood late this fall! Stay tuned!
