Please join The Faces of Cincinnati as we honor and show appreciation for our graduating class of 2020. Today we point the spotlight to high school graduating senior, Jacob Miller!  Jacob gave us his favorite quote, above and we asked for some fun facts as follows.

Q: What would you say you are most proud of about yourself?
A: My confidence in my ability to push through when things get difficult.

Q: Please tell us about your current plans after high school. What inspired you to choose this path?
A: I will be attending Mount St. Joseph University studying Sports Management. I was inspired to choose this path because I have loved sports all my life, especially running, football and basketball. Besides running competitively for the past six years, I’ve always focused on stats and team and player performances for almost all sports.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
A: I’m the oldest of four. We are a group that loves to play outside, watch movies and play any kind of board game. We find a way to make it fun even though we’re competitive!

Q: Who is the most interesting person you have met in our community. Why?
A: Harvey Lewis, an ultra-distance runner who is also a Cincinnati Public School teacher. His stories are inspirational and fascinating since he has competed all over the world and he runs distances most runners would never tackle.

Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?
A: Right now, I’m watching “The Last Dance”, the Michael Jordan documentary series.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world (no restrictions) right now, where would it be and why?
A: I’d like to go to California and drive up the coast from LA. I like how LA is portrayed and I would love to see the Pacific Ocean and the redwoods.

Q: If you could go back, what advice would you give to yourself as a freshman?
A: Don’t put yourself down. All you have to do is try your best and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Q: What is the best advice you received from a teacher? Who was it?
A: My favorite English teacher told me if I push through the hard times in high school, college will be where I’ll shine.

Q: If you could choose anyone alive today or passed, with whom would you like to have lunch? What would you want to know?
A: Conor McGregor. I would like to know more of the backstory that would explain his journey to success.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
A: The hills which make it especially challenging for a distance runner.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
A: I see myself still running and working as an athletic director at the high school or college level.

Q: What is your favorite month, holiday or season of the year?
A: Fall, especially Halloween.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
A: My family. I want to be a role model for my younger brother and my sisters.

Q: What is the first thing you want to do when this quarantine is completely over?
A: Party with my friends.

Q: Who or what do you miss the most right now?
A: My teachers because I never got to officially say good bye and thank them in person.

Jacob’s spirit in the face of this is uplifting to all of us. In addition to keeping up with school, he also works at Mercy West Park nursing home where they’ve had a significant outbreak. He is kitchen staff there and has had coworkers and patients alike getting sick around him yet he insists that he continue to work. Thank you Jacob and be safe!
