Please join The Faces of Cincinnati as we honor our high school graduating class of 2024. Today we point the spotlight to graduating senior, Ashley Haarmeyer! We asked Ashley to give us a peak into her school and life experience by answering the following questions.
What is your favorite quote?
“This too, shall pass”
What High School do you attend?
Oak Hills High School
Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I’m the oldest of 3, with my brother turning 15 this year and my sister 10. Obviously my family holds a spot close to my heart, and I probably wouldn’t have gotten this far as easily as I have without them. They’re always so supportive of me, especially when it comes to academics and athletics. My parents are always pushing me to strive for more, and I’m incredibly grateful for them.
What are your plans after graduation?
I’ve committed to University of Cincinnati where I plan to study psychology, and I’ll probably try to get my masters. I’m not entirely sure what I want to do since years and years of school doesn’t sound all that enticing, but I do know I want to work with kids. I hope to continue being involved in track and field, although I know college-level sports are more competitive.
If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I’d probably travel somewhere out west. I’m not entirely sure where, but somewhere with super pretty mountains and lakes. It sounds so peaceful but also not scorching hot.
What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Bojack Horseman
If you could give advice to the freshman class, what would you say?
I know everyone says this, but don’t take any moment for granted! I look back on my time in high school and I think about all the memories and people I wish I would’ve been more thankful for in the moment. Your life can, and will, change so much in just 4 years. You’ll meet so many new people and try so many new things and then before you know it all of those things will be memories.
If you were able to be cast as yourself into a television show or series, what show would you want to be in?
Probably Bojack Horseman
If you could choose anyone past or present to have lunch with, who would you choose? Why? And where, locally, would you meet for this lunch?
I’d say my grandma. She always would have something funny to say or a story to tell. A lunch with her would be nice; it’s been a while. And we’d go to Chick Fil A, because me and my family used to go there a lot with her.
What is your favorite thing about our community?
Everything to do here; zoo, parks, aquarium, etc.
Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Hopefully successful and happy, wherever that may be
What is something on your bucket list?
Live long enough to be a grandparent
What is your go to music when you can’t decide what to listen to?
hip-hop
Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
My favorite month is definitely September. It’s still warm, but not TOO hot. And football games have started back up again, it’s still warm enough to get ice cream but the leaves are starting to fall. School is getting back into the swing of things, but it’s still early enough in the year to be excited about it. My favorite holiday is probably 4th of July, because it’s the holiday that the most of my family comes to and I get to see all my extended relatives who live far away. And because it’s warm enough to swim and let your wet hair drip everywhere. Best single day on the calendar? September 22nd. It’s been my lucky day for a while now, not sure why. I just like the way it sounds.
What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
A crunch wrap from Taco Bell
What is one thing that most people do not know about you?
I used to play the saxophone in elementary school
Who inspires you to be better?
My boyfriend
